Dear Sir:-
The question of the establishment of a light,
or lights, on the Paracel Reefs in the China Sea as an
aid to navigation is again brought into prominânce by
the stranding, on the 14th ultimo, of the Japanese
Steam Ship "Mataura Maru" on the North Reef of that
group of islands and reefs. The disaster occurred at a
point about one and a half miles west by north west
from the wreck of the "Quinta" (June 1912). Had there
been a light on the North Reef it is certain that both
disasters would have been averted.
